Wolfsburg insist Dzeko not for sale

Wolfsburg insist Dzeko not for saleWolfsburg, Germany  - German champion VfL Wolfsburg insisted Wednesday their highly-sought striker Edin Dzeko would not be sold.

Chief executive Juergen Marbach said the club would be resisting any move to prise the 23-year-old Bosnian away.

"I am confident we can convince him about a contract extension," he said.

AC Milan are leading the chase for Dzeko, who is reportedly also attracting the interest of several Premier League clubs.

Dzeko scored 26 goals last season and with Brazilian team-mate Grafite, the league top scorer with 28 goals, formed the deadliest attack in Bundesliga history as Wolfsburg won their first German title.

Marbach said it was also hoped to finalize talks on a contract extension until 2012 for Grafite by next week.

Local reports said the club was showing an interest in Portsmouth's Peter Crouch and the Real Madrid pair Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Javier Saviola as it seeks to strengthen the attack.

"We are in contract with a number of candidates but I am not taking part in any speculation," Marbach said.(dpa)
