Wasps can Turn Spiders into Zombies to make them Build Web for their Offspring

Japanese researchers have conducted a study on wasps and spiders in which they have unveiled that the wasps can turn spiders into zombies and make them construct a web for their offspring. After the web-making work is done, wasps kill spiders.

The Japanese researchers said that wasps lay their eggs on the back of spiders. They are able to do so by taking control over spider's mind and make them build a home for their offspring. The spider not only acts as a home for the larvae, but also as food. The larvae suck the blood and guts of the spider.

Lead researcher Prof. Austin from the Kobe University said about the wasps that it is their modus operandi and this is what they do. Researchers said that only certain wasps are able to perform this act.

The species is known as Reclinervellusnielseni and they infect the spider species known as Cyclosaargenteoalba. Using poisonous sting, the wasp is able to overcome the spider's nervous system and also lays egg on the arachnid.

After around 10 days, the larvae are able to take control of the spider and feeds on its body fluid. For around 10 hours, the spider makes a web to protect the larvae. Once the web is built then the larvae kill the spider as they are no use any more. The developed webs are quite tough and tougher than normal webs.
