Volcanic Cloud clearance leads Airlines to Resume Flights

As Mount Raung's volcanic ash cloud hovered over Denpasar, many flights were canceled to and from Bali. But now, the volcanic ash cloud is clearing and flights are resuming. Virgin Australia will resume flights between Australia and Bali this afternoon.

This afternoon, Virgin Australia will resume flights between Australia and Bali as a volcanic ash cloud that hovered over Denpasar is clearing. Due to Mount Raung's volcanic ash cloud, many flights to and from Bali have to be canceled.

Many airlines have canceled their flights, including Jetstar. Indonesian airline Garuda has not cancelled any flight. In order to clear a backlog of stranded passengers, airlines will be carrying out additional services.

Two flights have been scheduled for this afternoon and six additional flights will be running tomorrow. Since late June, the ash cloud has been disrupting flights to and from Indonesia. As per the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre's Michael Haywood, the conditions should improve within a day.

"We'll start to see a wind change this morning but as the day progresses we will definitely see a bit more of a clearance. So definitely by this afternoon we should see the winds definitely coming from the north pushing ash to the south", affirmed Haywood.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Chris Davies affirmed that they have already started seeing the winds shifting and turning to the north. Wind has been pushing the volcanic ash to the south.

Jetstar said they have been looking out for options for additional flights from Bali to Australia so that passengers can reach their destinations as soon as possible. Additional flights will require clear flying conditions and local approvals.
