Voice and gesture recognition to challenge keyboards and mouse in 2013

Voice and gesture recognition to challenge keyboards and mouse in 2013New input methods like voice and gesture recognition will challenge conventional input devices like keyboards and mouse in 2013, and the boundaries between PCs and tablets will get blurred, according to computer chip giant Intel.

Sandeep Aurora, marketing director of Intel South Asia, on Monday predicted that the chip maker foresaw a renewed dynamism in computing in 2013 with the surfacing of a extremely-connected multi-device landscape.

Speaking on the topic, he said, "The traditional input devices such as keyboards and mouse will be challenged by the new input methods such as voice and gesture recognition."

He added that tablet computers, convertibles such as laptops that can be turned into tablets, and new devices would hit store shelves, fading the boundaries between PCs and tablets.

This year, various manufacturers like Dell launched Intel-based Ultrabook convertibles, which can be used as a laptop as well as a tablet.

Aurora also said that consumers will also see the launch of laptops with long-battery life that will run for more than ten hours on one full charge in 2013.

Many computer manufacturers are preparing to launch tablets based on Intel-based Core and Atom processors in 2013. Intel's fourth-generation core processors will boost performance in all devices ranging from smartphones to tablets, and also enhance their battery life.
