Virgin Mobile launches low-cost music-centric vJazz phone in India
The mobile phone service provider offering service via tie-up with Tata Teleservices in India – Virgin Mobile on Tuesday declared the launch of low-cost color handset vJazz that is specifically designed for music application. The value-added service (VAS) provider – Virgin Mobile announced that it has rolled out the wine red and black color handset, vJazz featuring vMusic that facilitates free unlimited full-track music downloads.
In its press release, Virgin Mobile stated that vJazz allows the Virgin Mobile users to download full songs from a wide range of upto 1,00,000 Bollywood, Regional and International chart-busters, for free for one year.
The music-centric vJazz phone comes equipped with 1 GB SD Card offering plenteous storage space for music and songs. According to Virgin Mobile, over one lakh Bollywood, regional and International songs are available for free downloading for one year.
The vJazz features reasonably large screen for Video playback and other multimedia entertainment. The feature rich vJazz includes a number of features, such as Music player, Music keys, FM Radio, Video playback, 1.3 MP camera, 1000 SMS and 1000 phonebook storage space, loud speakers, and Bluetooth. However, the music oriented vJazz phone is low priced phone; the phone is available for an affordable price of Rs 4,250/.
Speaking at the launch of vJazz, the Chief Executive Officer, Virgin Mobile India, M.A. Madhusudan stated that music application is the USP of vJazz handset. Mr. Madhusudan said, “Music is at the core of youth culture, bollywood, jazz, hip-hop, rock, alternative, you name it, they know it! Our studies indicate that the existing phones in the market allow youth to carry a small collection of songs.”
According to Madhusudan, youth always has a desire to refresh music regularly, but the biggest obstacle in the music consumption is the outrageous cost of downloading full length songs that is about Rs. 40-45 per song.
Madhusudan added, "With vJazz, youth can now refresh music 24/ 7 by accessing and downloading free unlimited full music tracks, anytime, anywhere with just one touch access to vMusic, the music client in the phone.”
Virgin Mobile also stated that the company aims to have 5 million subscribers from the youth segment by 2011. Madhusudan said, "By 2011, the number of mobile user among the youth is likely to go up to 50 million in India. We aim to win 10 per cent of that market.”
