Video shows seal escaping jaws of a great white shark

A video shows a seal escaping the jaws of a great white shark. The two are seen leaping from the water into the mid-air. The video has been viewed online approximately 700,000 times in two days. It has been captured by Dr. Greg Skomal of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries.

This encounter that was almost fatal occurred off the coast of Cape Cod. At the time, Skomal was involved in research with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. According to the Cape Cod Times, researches tagged two great white sharks in the area, since the video was captured.

It appears the seal was approaching shore when it encountered the predator, according to Skomal. He said that researchers have dubbed the approximately 12-foot white shark as "Lumpy". The shark was not aware about the seal until the two were comparatively close to each other.

This was for the reason that the water nearby Cape Cod is murky. As a result of this, sharks have to approach their prey for a visual lock on their target.

According to Skomal, when the shark realized that potential prey was coming closer, "the shark just charged the seal. The seal suddenly saw the shark coming at it and launched itself out of the water".

As per reports, the chase took place in nearly 6 to 8 feet of water. According to Skomal, speed of the shark catapulted it beyond the ocean for the reason that the water was quite shallow.
