UTV Software inks pact with Walt Disney’s international TV distribution arm; to launch business channel ‘UTVi'
UTV Software Communications, one of leading television and movie content firm, has informed that the company has tied up with Disney-ABC International Television (Asia-Pacific), a unit of US media giant Walt Disney Co., to source news programming for its upcoming business news channel in India.
UTVi, the proposed English-language business news channel, will deliver content through television, web and mobile. The news channel is scheduled to be launched in April end.
Mumbai-based, UTV Software Communications Limited, through its subsidiaries, operates as an integrated media and entertainment company primarily in India. The company’s broadcasting business broadcasts various television channels, including Hungama TV, a 24-hour Hindi kids’ channel; and BINDASS, a local youth entertainment channel.
Apart form this, UTV Software Communications also plans to acquire 20 percent stake in its business news channel, within 3-6 months. Presently, UTVi is owned entirely by UTV founders.
Previous month, UTV Software announced earnings results for the quarter to December 2007, in which company has registered a net profit of Rs 0.90 crore. Its sales increased by 85% to Rs 44.32 crore.
