Universe could be a Hologram
As per a new mathematical model developed at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), there is a possibility that the universe could be a hologram.
As per experts, if this is correct then it means that that all humans might be living lives in just two spatial dimensions than the familiar three of length, width and height. According to the researchers, the holographic principle positing that our universe could contain just two dimensions of length was first proposed back in 1997. The researchers said what is perceived as a third dimension might actually two-dimensional events on the ‘horizon’ of a two-dimensional image.
This property of the universe might act much like the holograms used on credit cards and despite of being two-dimensional, they create an illusion of depth. According to the researchers, this amazing idea has only been studied mathematically and in cases the universe is said to have a negative curvature like a horse saddle.
According to new calculations, a two-dimensional universe projecting a holographic appearance of three dimensions might occur if spacetime were flat. The researchers said that pairs of entangled quantum particles cannot be explained mathematically as separate objects in spite of the distance between them.
“If quantum gravity in a flat space allows for a holographic description by a standard quantum theory, then there must by physical quantities, which can be calculated in both theories and the results must agree”, said Daniel Grumiller of TU Wien.
Theories of quantum effects analyzed in two dimensions could be mapped into gravitational models designed in three dimensions. Grumiller said the calculation confirms assumption that the holographic principle can also be realized in flat spaces.
