Travelling in premium trains all set to become costlier
Moving in premium trains like Shatabdi, Duronto and Rajdhani is all set to become a bit costlier as the railways on Friday announced its decision to further increase ticket prices of these trains.
The menu and tariff of these premium trains are included in the ticket prices. Therefore, the railways decision of revising food tariff upward is expected to push the overall ticket prices up by Rs 25 to Rs 50.
For Executive Class in Shatabdi and First AC class in Rajdhani and Duranto, the railways slashed the prices of morning as well as evening tea by around 30 per cent, while the rates of breakfast, lunch and dinner have been hiked by 35 per cent and 15 per cent, respectively.
The Indian railways serve nearly 3.3 crore meals in these premium trains per year. For the current financial year, the state-run transporter has set a target of generating Rs 1.43 lakh crore in revenue.
When contacted, an official from the railway board, said, "The base fare of premier trains has not been increased and only food prices have been revised, which will result in overall hike in ticket rates."
Set to take effect from October 17, this is going to be the second hike in train ticket prices in selected trains in a month. Previously on October 7, the railways hiked the ticket prices of all trains by 2 per cent.
