Tiny Tuna Crabs wash up in Thousands
The Orange County Register has unveiled that small tuna crabs are washing up in huge numbers on some Orange County beaches.
Experts have noticed a phenomenon as per which, blue, jellyfish-like creatures and tropical fish known as yellowtail and Bluefin tuna are being seen earlier than normal this year. These crabs created a rim of red along the shorelines.
Donna Kalez, one of the persons who saw these crabs being washed up, said the crabs are alive and in the surfline and swimming up. “Once they get this close to shore, they can’t go anywhere, so they just wash in. They aren’t strong enough to swim out”, said Kalez.
For past many weeks, the tiny creatures were in news for being washed up in large number on San Diego beaches. But on Sunday, they washed up in thousands. As per experts, the crabs have not been seen in the area for decades. They said that the pelagic crabs are the latest one in a year of odd sightings along the coast.
O.C. Lifeguards Chief Jason Young said it has been suggested that beachgoers should not touch or take them from marine protected areas. People are also being made aware of what the critters are all about.
