Tia Nelson resigns from public lands board that banned conversation on climate change

According to reports, executive secretary of Wisconsin's public lands agency is resigning after the agency banned its employees from carrying out discussions on climate change. On Tuesday, Tia Nelson made an announcement regarding her resignation.

Nelson had been working as an executive secretary of the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands for 11 years. According to her, on August 11, she'll begin an "exciting opportunity". According to Nelson, "There's lot of silver linings in what we had to go through. I was deeply touched by the support I got".

Nelson, the daughter of former Gov. and US Sen. Gaylord Nelson who founded Earth Day, was reported to be arguing with State Treasurer Matt Adamczyk for months. In April, Adamczyk came up with a resolution to ban employees of the agency from doing anything linked to climate change, while they work.

Adamczyk and Attorney General Brad Schimel, both Republicans came in support of the decision, whereas Democratic Secretary of State Doug La Follette was against that decision.

In June, the three-member board came up with the softer policy, and voted to ban employees from supporting global warming policy changes. In these cases, Schimel casted the deciding vote and Adamczyk continued to be in opposition to permit any conversation regarding climate change.

Adamczyk said that the whole thing is just about Tia Nelson. His opposition came as a result of the fact that Nelson was appointed by the Gov. of that time, Jim Doyle, to work on global warming.
