Washington, Jan 14 : Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University have developed software that will let engineers design new products by simply sketching their ideas on a tablet computer.
The software, dubbed SketchCAD, is a digital pen-based computer system that can be used to design 3D products for a variety of industry sectors.
"The idea is to empower engineers and designers with tools that are already familiar to them and are the most natural for the task," said Levent Burak Kara, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon.
London, Jan 14 : Researchers at the University of Aberdeen in the UK are planning to create cheaper and lower temperature fuel cells that convert fuel to electricity without the need for combustion, and could be used to power mobile devices such as laptops.
According to a report by BBC News, these cells could replace combustion engines in cars, and mobile device batteries.
The university's chemistry department is trying to develop "carbon-tolerant" fuel cells.
Melbourne, Jan. 14 : Satyam Computer Services is likely be swallowed up by one of its rivals because of the billion-dollar corporate fraud scandal.
According to analyst firm IDC, HCL and Tata Consultancy Services are the frontrunners to acquire Satyam, but second-tier multinationals such as Fujitsu, Atos Origin and Cap Gemini could also be in the running.
According to The Times, IDC forecasts acquisition as the most likely outcome for Satyam.
In its report it said the key unanswered question in the corporate fraud is the role that Satyam's auditor PricewaterhouseCoopers played.
