San Francisco  - Shares of US memory chip maker SanDisk Corp soared more than 25 per cent early Friday after reports that it might be bought by Korean electronics giant Samsung.

SanDisk's shares have dropped more than 45 per cent since the beginning of the year as the industry reeled from a market glut that has pulled down average selling prices.

Washington, Sept 5 : A United States based analyst has said that it would be a shame if the India-US civil nuclear deal slips through after coming so close in hand.

Deepa Ollapally, Associate Director of Sigur Centre for Asian Studies, Georgetown University, Elliot School said it would be very difficult to re-engineer something like this in future, if the deal does not come through now.

Vienna, Sep 5 : India''s statement has given a new momentum to the Nuclear Suppliers'' Group (NSG) meeting being held at Vienna, said US sources.

As per the US Arms Control Office, the NSG has welcomed External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee''s statement.

Seeking to allay apprehensions of certain NSG countries, India on Friday said it is committed to the strengthening of the non-proliferation regime and underlined the policy of no-first-use of nuclear weapons.

Kiel, Germany - German scientists issued details Friday of a research project to extract an untapped source of energy on the ocean floors and at the same time replace it with unwanted carbon dioxide.

The project, sponsored by the German government, could solve two of the world's problems at the same time: gas hydrates in seabed rock could meet the shortfall when oilfields and gasfields run dry, and climate change could be reduced by sequestering the CO2.

Sony’s E-ink Reader, which has been priced at £199, has been decided to be sold at Waterstone in its 200 stores nationwide in two days.

This pocket sized and slim electronic device, which at present comes with only 200MB memory, could be expanded by 1000 in next few months. Presently the Sony Reader can store 160 average-sized books, with a 200GB hard drive. It can be however increased to 160,000.

This actually is equal to number of books the British Library adds to its collection every six months. Its battery presently in one charge can is more than enough to turn 6800 pages, and even it is being improved by the company.
