After being shunted out of government, President Nicolas Sarkozy was expecting Dati to keep a lower profile and avoid being photographed in expensive designer clothes in celebrity magazines.

The 43-year-old single mother, however, is enjoying an unprecedented wave of popularity and exposure as she works out her notice.
