Swaraj meets UNESCO DG Bokova, discusses issues on empowerment

Swaraj meets UNESCO DG BokovaNew Delhi, Nov 24 : External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met Irina Bokova, the Director General of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), here on Monday during which the duo discussed issues related to exclusion and empowerment.

"Women to the fore in diplomacy.Minister @SushmaSwaraj and Irina Bokova DG of @UNESCO discuss 'exclusion and empowerment'," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted about the meeting.

The UNESCO has an office in India which was established in 1948 as its first decentralised office in Asia. Initially known as the South Asia Science Cooperation Office then as the Field Science Office for South Asia and still later as the Regional Office of Science and Technology for South and Central Asia (ROSTSCA).
