Supermoon and Lunar Eclipse to make Mid-Autumn Festival Special

The Mid-Autumn Festival, a harvest festival celebrated by Chinese people, will begin on September 27. But with this year's festival, there is something special in the cosmos for people in the country. As per report of the South China Morning Post, people in the region can enjoy supermoon and lunar eclipse during Mid-Autumn Festival of 2015.

In the lunar calendar of East Asian country, the three-day festival starts on the eighth month's 15th day. This year, the festival is going to start on September 27. This year, with the amazing festival, people can enjoy supermoon, an event when moon comes very close to earth. The phenomenon causes moon's diameter to appear about 14% bigger than it really is, as per the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This event is very rare and occurs after many years. The last time when a supermoon and lunar eclipse occurred was more than three decades ago, and the next will take place in 2033. According to astronomers, this year is going to the happiest for stargazers as six supermoons could be seen above the planet this year. This month's supermoon will be the closest to the planet, the astronomers said.

According to some reports, some stargazers in the US will not able to witness the amazing event as the rare phenomenon will only be visible from North or South America on September 27. The South China Morning Post reported that the event will reach its peak on Sept 28, the second day of the festival.
