SpaceX looking for a structural welder
SpaceX, the aerospace firm, is searching for a structural welder for its launch site located in South Texas. The most recent job has been posted by Elon Musk's Space Exploration Technologies. The company said that structural welding is an important utility of the launch site engineering and build team.
According to the job posting, "Work as part of a team of elite individuals building and improving the mechanical systems at our rocket launch facilities. Be there on the ground floor, getting your hands dirty and contributing directly to the success of future launches".
SpaceX is looking forward to develop first vertical and commercial rocket launch facility of the world at Boca Chica Beach.
As per reports, the structural welder will assemble and fabricate different, complex structures and equipment in order to launch Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, Crew Dragon and Cargo Dragon.
Some instances of these projects consist of air bearing systems, rocket structure and propulsion component manipulation equipment, robotic drilling solutions, roadway transportation systems, friction stir weld machines and static and dynamic fixturing.
According to SpaceX, the main task of a launch site welder is to carry out welds on ground support systems and tooling structures. In addition to that, welders lay out, fit and produce metal components in order to assemble structures, like erector parts, tooling and pressure vessels. Tooling welders take part in additional areas, like constructing additional equipment and training outside contractors on launch sites.
The candidate needs to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg.
