SpaceVR starts Kickstarter Campaign to offer Space Footage through VR device

SpaceVR has launched a Kickstarter campaign, which aims to collect $500,000. Through the funds, a 3D, 360-degree camera will be sent to the International Space Station that will collect footages of space and will allow people on earth to view them through a virtual reality device known as the Samsung GearVR.

The campaign is urging private investors to put in their contributions. A Kickstarter page has been made that states, “Our vision is to bring the Overview Effect [what astronauts call the realization of the Earth’s fragility when looking at it from space] to everyone by allowing people to truly experience our universe through the magic of virtual reality”.

The page also explained about the Overview Effect, which means seeing earth from space. From that distance, the planet looks like a small ball having a paper-thin atmosphere. One plus point of seeing earth from distance is you do not see borders and the conflicts people have with other.

CEO Ryan Holmes said that their project provides an equal opportunity to one and all to become an astronaut and themselves feel the experience of seeing earth. Their goal is to offer this experience to people through virtual reality platform.

As a part of subscription service, one will be able to see new footage each week. In order to see, there will be a need of Google Cardboard. Also, you need to take out $75 or more to get at least 3 months of access and the money increases to $100, if Cardboard is needed at the same time. For the complete year subscription, it will cost $250.
