SpaceVR raising Funds to Send3D, 360-degree UHD Camera to ISS
A new Kickstarter campaign has been started by a virtual reality company SpaceVR. It wants to send a 3D, 360-degree UHD (Ultra High Definition) camera to the International Space Station (ISS). For this purpose, the campaign has been started to raise $500,000. The amount will cover the cost of launching camera.
SpaceVR said that the amount is also the estimated operating costs for the first year. The camera kit known as the Overview One will be sent by the end of this year along with NanoRacks that will provide commercial lab access on the station.
An astronaut present at the ISS will put camera kit together with the help of SpaceVR's design model and technology. Once the camera is set, astronauts will make videos from the Cupola module, providing a great view of space from the station and also of the earth below.
The captured footage will be sent back to SpaceVR team on earth. The company is planning to put together the video using any of the currently available virtual reality systems including Google Cardboard, the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.
There are different tiers for backers who promise to contribute different amounts in exchange of goodies like pictures, posters and T-shirts. Those who want to experience complete VR will need to pay.
The lowest slab that offers SpaceVR's 3D VR content will cost $75. In the next slab, you will get a custom-branded Google Cardboard kit for $100 and can also get custom Samsung Gear VR kit for $750.
