Solar Eclipse to occur in Britain on March 20

On March 20, stargazers will have a chance to witness a stunning event in the sky. According to reports, the moon will cover the sun and block about 98% of its light. It will be the biggest solar eclipse in Britain since 1999. The reports also stated that the night before the solar eclipse, there will be a Supermoon.

The occurrence of the solar eclipse and Supermoon will make the 2015 Spring Equinox eclipse a Supermoon eclipse. It means that a Supermoon, equinox and eclipse will fall on the same day. According to the reports, stargazers across Northern Africa, Europe and Northern Asia will be able to see the partial eclipse. There will be a total solar eclipse in March 2015 close to the United Kingdom, the reports stated.

About 30% to 98% of the sun's light will be blocked by the moon, depending on location. The amount of light blocked in north regions will be more than other regions. The moon will cover about 80% of the sun in England, while more than 90% of the sun will be obscured by the moon in Scotland.

The reports also stated that the west coast of the Isle of Lewis will have the deepest partial eclipse in the UK, where 98% of the sun will be obscured by the moon. According to the treasurer of Thanet Astronomy Group, George Ward, he is looking forward to see the double event of eclipse and Supermoon.

He further said, "The Supermoon is well worth looking at. It (the Supermoon) is a rare event and with binoculars you can see impressive details of the moon's surface that you can't during a full moon because it's too bright".

Solar eclipses happen on average 2.4 times a year. Fred Espenak, world-leading scientist on eclipses, said that the rare phenomenon can be accurately predicted.
