Some minority Christian groups have claimed that arrival of the latest ‘blood moon’ on September 28 is going to bring a huge world-ending meteor strike. Since previous year’s April 15, this is going to be the fourth blood moon. Blood moon is a phenomenon that takes place when the moon passes into the shadow of earth, and as the earth moves between the sun and the moon, the moon takes on a reddish shade.

Some religious groups said that the timing of the eclipses is not a coincidence, but is an indication of global destruction. A few American Christian groups see the tetrad of lunar eclipses- four consecutive eclipses at six monthly intervals - as an omen.

A US pastor, John Hagee, has even written a book foretelling the disaster named as ‘Four Blood Moons’. Last year in March, the book was the country's ninth best-selling paperback. Mr. Hagee and Mark Blitz have mentioned the blood moons as the indications of the world’s end and the second coming.

To put the world’s mind at rest, NASA issued a statement saying that its sophisticated monitoring equipment did not see anything untoward. A spokesman said, “NASA knows of no asteroid or comet currently on a collision course with Earth, so the probability of a major collision is quite small”
