Secretive US Space Command sees Anti-Satellite Weapon as matter of Big Concern
A branch of the US military often remains silent, but something has prompted it to break the silence and warned about China’s actions for space control, especially about anti-satellite weapons. Air Force Space Command looks for the threats to the US.
William Triplett, former chief counsel to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and an expert on national security, said it’s very important to have high-level clearance for the officers to speak openly in a segment of ‘60 Minutes’. Triplet said to recall when was the last time anyone in the administration stepped ahead to say Chinese are a military threat.
A “60 Minutes” piece helped people know more about Air Force Space Command.
“I can’t remember anything in all the years I’ve been at this, at least since the 1970s, that the administration has come out and said the Chinese are a military threat to us this blatantly”, Triplett said.
The “60 Minutes” segment, “The Battle Above”, was broadcasted on April 26 to provide an insight into US Space Command. Viewers must have understood that the Chinese regime’s development of anti-satellite weapons is one of the Space Command’s top concerns.
Triplett said it would be really surprising for people to know how games are played to gain control of space. Satellite security is talked about the least, but one must not forget their importance as everything from GPS to military communications is dependent on them.
The threat of anti-satellite weapons has now started drawing broad attention. According to Triplett, China’s anti-satellite weapons are really concerning.
An anti-satellite weapon was tested by the Chinese regime in January 2007. It ended up destroying one of its own weather satellites. It was said in the 60 Minutes segment that as many as six, ground-based, anti-satellite weapons have been tested by Chinese regime so far.
