The secret of right timing
There have been quite a few similarities between wildlife photography & Mergers and acquisitions bet the utmost has been the timing. While only a difference of a few seconds can make a lot of difference on to the result in both the cases, there could be no better than jay G Piramal, who is both a wildlife photographer as well a ace deal maker in the Indian market.
After Piramal sold its branded drug business to Abott for over $3 billion, it has been labelled as the most sensible deal by the industry experts after the Singhs sold off Ranbaxy to Daichii Sankyo.
But the journey has not been that easy, as at a point of time when the French drug maker Roche was looking for a buyer following a controversy and the sudden departure of its India head in the early 1990s, Piramal's expertise came in handy that picked up the entity and same was the case with Boehringer Mannheim, the German drug major.
While the deal is expected to make Abott the biggest generics player in the Indian market, the deal is expected to benefit Piramal at a large scale as the valuation that the business has got is whopping by all means.
