Scientists fascinated by Image of Twin Jet planetary nebula

Some days ago, NASA's Hubble telescope spotted a cosmic butterfly. The Twin Jet Nebula comprises an aging star whose core is completely exposed and there is also a small star. The Nebula has been attracting the attention of scientists as it is creating a bright rainbow in space.

Scientists said they were able to capture this amazing notable event in outer space because the nebula's center is slowly collapsing and because of it the dying star is shedding its outer layer. As stated above, the smaller star orbits the larger, dying star, which pulls the layer in bipolar pattern creating butterfly wings pattern.

It is not the first time that the Twin Jet Nebula has been captured by scientists. It is just that the images are quite fascinating. For the first time the nebula was observed in 1947 and officially it is known as PN M2-9.

As per scientists, its lobes were formed 1,200 years back. The glowing shells of gas, which can clearly be seen in the image, represents the final stages of life of old star having low mass. Researchers are quite hopeful that the nebula will offer important knowledge on the fate of the sun, some 5 billion years later.

At that time period, the sun will turn into a red giant and will eject its own nebula. The new images by the Hubble were made using its Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph.
