Schweinsteiger renews Munich contract until 2012
Munich - Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has renewed his contract at Bayern Munich until 2012, the Bundesliga champions announced on Monday.
Bayern said on their website that Schweinsteiger, 24, signed a new three-year deal on the weekend. His current contract expires after the season amid reported interest from European top clubs including Real Madrid and Juventus Turin.
Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the club was "very happy" to have settled this important issue.
Schweinsteiger joined Bayern's junior teams 10 years ago and made his first-team debut in 2002. He has played 234 matches overall in Munich's shirt, winning four German league and cup doubles.
Despite his young age Schweinsteiger is a Germany veteran as well with 62 caps highlighted by a third-place finish at the 2006 World Cup and second place at Euro 2008. (dpa)
