Sainsbury to emerge as clear winner on Christmas sale, CEO
Justin King, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UK's retailing giant, Sainsbury's has said that the company is set to emerge as the clear winner from the Christmas season sales.
King appeared confidence of the success for the third largest supermarket in the country even as it recorded a slower growth during the festive season. The company said that the growth in sales at stores open over a year was recorded at 0.9 per cent during the 14 weeks to 5 January. The growth is lower than 1.9 per cent recorded in the previous quarter but company expecting to be on the top.
King, said, "We are very content with 0.9%. When the reporting season is over we'll emerge clearly as the winner." He added that the growth in sales is lower because they are compared to a strong Christmas during the previous year. He said that its rival, Tesco had a difficult in the previous year but Morrisons was affected by a lack of a home delivery service and its festive season fell 2.5 per cent.
According o figures released by market researchers Kantar Worldpanel, Sainsbury's is the only major retailer that was able to boost market share compared to the same period in the previous year.
