Retail inflation rises to 10.03% in AugustAccording to the latest figures released, the retail inflation in the country rose to 10.03 per cent in the month of August compared to 9.86 per cent recorded in the previous month.

The government released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, which showed that the rise in prices was mainly due to the heavy rise in the price of vegetables. The prices of vegetables rose 20.79 per cent during the month driving up inflation in the country.

The CPI in urban areas rose to 10.19 per cent in August from 10.10 per cent in July. On the other hand, the CPI for rural areas rose 9.90 per cent during August compared to 9.76 per cent in the previous month.

The index for food and beverages rose by 12.03 per cent, clothing, bedding and footwear by 10.71 per cent and fuel and light by 7.55 per cent during the month. The price index does not include the impact of the rise in the price of diesel in the country.

India's central bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) expressed concerns about the high inflation and kept its key lending rates unchanged.
