Researchers determine average penis length to help men suffering from ‘small-penis anxiety’
A new study on penis size has revealed that the average length of the manhood is almost a full inch smaller than the standard model of six inches. Researches who conducted the study believe that the new findings could help men who suffer from 'small penis anxiety', a common anxiety among males about their penis size. Some of the men are believed to be so distressed that they can even be diagnosed with 'Body Dysmorphic Disorder'.
Up till now there was no formal review of research into penis size so that a system can be developed to show the range of size of flaccid or erect penis. But now, researchers from the Institute of Psychiatry said that the new analysis and graphs display the full range of sizes.
The recorded size could provide insights into what is considered normal for penis length and circumference.
Dr. David Veale, of King's College London and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and colleague from King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust created a nomogram that depicts the distribution of the size of a flaccid or erect penis.
The researchers analyzed medical literature and found 17 studies examining up to 15,521 males and their respective penis size.
They found that the average length of a flaccid penis was 3.6 inches, the average length of a flaccid stretched penis was 5.3 inches, and the average length of an erect penis was 5.2 inches.
The study entitled 'Am I normal?' was published online March 3 in the journal BJU International. The authors hope that their charts will comfort and reassure men who don't know where they stand when it comes to the average penis length.
