Researchers create pages that filter water

According to reports, pages that are infused with bacteria-killing metal nanoparticles have been created by researchers. Researchers have come up with this low-cost and easily transportable method to purify drinking water.

It has been reported that scientists have come up with pages that consist of bacteria-killing metal nanoparticles. It is a highly economical and simple method based on nanotechnology that could be used for purifying drinking water.

Information regarding water safety has been printed on each page. It is written in both English and the language of other nations where the filter will be used. One can remove each page from the book and slide into a holding device in which water is filtered after pouring.

As per reports, a page is capable of cleaning up to 26 gallons of drinking water. So a book is able to filter an individual's water needs for four years. Theresa Dankovich came up with the discovery while studying paper's material properties.

According to Dr Teri Dankovich, who tested the book in Canada and America over a number of years after developing it, the invention is aimed at communities in developing nations. She gave details about the invention, saying, "All you need to do is tear out a paper, put it in a simple filter holder and pour water into it from rivers, streams, wells etc and out comes clean water - and dead bacteria as well".

According to her, the super book that has silver and copper-nanoparticle paper could help purify water up to 99.9% in the face of highly contaminated water sources. This could bring bacteria levels near to those of the drinking water in the US.

As per reports, unsafe water as well as improper hygiene leads to 6% of all deaths worldwide.
