Pilibhit, Mar 28  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi moved a surrender plea in Pilibhit''s local court today.

The application was moved by his lawyers before Chief Judicial Magistrate Vipin Kumar. The court will hear a plea during the day.

Talking to reporters here, Varun said: "I am ready to go to jail."

Ahead of Varun''s arrival, party workers, who gathered here to support him, were arrested after they clashed with police.

They also blocked roads ahead of Varun''s arrival in Pilibhit. He left for Pilibhit early Saturday to court arrest there.

On Friday, Varun withdrew his anticipatory bail application from the Delhi High Court. The court had granted him anticipatory bail on March 20.

Lucknow, March 27 : Former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin has been named as Congress' candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad constituency for 15th Lok Sabha elections.

Azaruddin's name was announced among the fourteen names declared on Friday by the Congress party.

Sanjay Singh, who belongs to the royal family of Amethi, is the Congress candidate from his pocket borough Sultanpur.

Raiganj (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 27 : Keen to make travel easier for rural folk in Uttar Pradesh, the authorities are a executing road development project in Raiganj Village near Uttar Pradesh Gorakhpur District.

Funding from the project is coming from the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (Prime Minister's Village Road Scheme).

The Central Government launched the scheme in 2000-01 with an aim to link every village to the main road.

Chandravati Devi, the head of Raiganj village, said villagers are benefiting from the project.

To strengthen its GSM reach, Reliance Communications (RCom) has rolled out its post paid GSM services in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

While making the announcement, Mr. Salim Haq, RCom Regional Head UP and Uttarakhand, stated that the post paid customers in both the states would be offered three plans.

Under the first plan that costs Rs 129 monthly, subscribers can make all local and STD calls at the rate of Rs 1 per minute.

Kanpur, Mar 24 : Congress leader Sri Prakash Jaiswal on Tuesday said that Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta would campaign for the party in the upcoming general elections.

Jaiswal also said that actors Govinda and Nagma would also take part in rallies and road shows of the party.

Govinda is a Congress MP and Nagma has been an active member of the party in earlier elections.

Earlier, speculations were high about Zinta joining politics on a Congress ticket.
