Floods leave a trail of disease in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur, Aug 7 : Floodwaters have started receding in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, but water-borne diseases have started taking a toll.

The floodwaters have cut off hundreds of villages in the region. According to the state authorities, 311 villages have been inundated and around 21 lives have been lost in the floods.

Most of the flood victims anticipate an outbreak of cholera due to the unhygienic conditions.

BJP not to allow demolition of Ram Setu

Lucknow, Aug 3 :BJP President Rajnath Singh BJP President Rajnath Singh has said that he will not allow the UPA Government to go ahead with a Sethusamudram shipping canal project which hurts Hindu sentiments.

Addressing a rally here on Saturday, Singh said that the State and Central Governments were pursuing the project without searching for any viable alternative.

"A solution can be found without demolishing the Ram Setu but it looks that the state''s ruling Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) and Central Government, which are allies are adamant on demolishing it at any cost. But we will not allow them," he added.

Police seize eight leopard skins from poachers in UPSaharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), July 28 : Uttar Pradesh police seized eight skins of leopards from poachers from Saharanpur on Monday.

Acting on a tip off, the police arrested four persons possessing leopard skins.

Wildlife officials say that illegal trade is growing with crime syndicates making millions of dollars from the killing, smuggling and selling of rare animals like Tigers.

Feigning innocence, one of the arrested persons said that he was lured with money to sell the skins.

Gorakhpur flooded with rainwater

Gorakhpur, July 24: Incessant rains have caused flooding in several villages across Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Rising water levels in the Ghaghra and Kuano rivers has flooded the several villages causing massive loss to crops and property.

According to reports, floodwaters have cut off hundreds of villages.

Villagers complain that their villages are inundated for the past one-week and fear an outbreak of water-borne diseases.

"Water is all around us. There is no drinking water, no food and no oil to cook. If the government or the God do not come to our rescue soon, we will all die," said Nikshed, a villager.

This time, BSNL has come up with a new scheme for rustic regions of Uttar Pradesh.

Under this novel plan a landline connection will be available at monthly installments of just Rs 20. This scheme is exclusively for those living in rustic areas of Uttar Pradesh.
 
Mr. Rajech Kumar, BSNL general manager for marketing in the state, said, “The upcoming scheme will be exclusively launched in the villages in August.”
