Clashes continue in Srinagar

Srinagar, Sept 13: Violent clashes between security forces and agitators continued for the second day today in Maisuma area of Srinagar.

Several slogan-shouting protesters took out a procession from Maisuma locality. The protesters were intercepted by CRPF personnel who used batons to disperse them, triggering intense clashes as the agitators indulged in stone pelting, official sources said.

So far, there were no report of any injury in the clashes, but several persons were beaten up by paramilitary forces.

Meanwhile, curfew continued for the second day in Shopian and Baramulla district towns where one person each was killed in security forces' firing on protesters on Friday.

Yasin Malik injured in a clash with J-K police

Muhammad Yasin MalikSrinagar, Sept 12 : Thousands of protesters led by Muhammad Yasin Malik chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), clashed with police in Srinagar on Friday.

The protesters had gathered on the call of the joint co-ordination committee of the two factions of the separatist Hurriyat Conference that had called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers across the Kashmir Valley.

With posters of Malik in their hands, protesters shouted slogans against the Government.

Five militants killed in gunbattles in Indian Kashmir

Jammu and KashmirSrinagar, Kashmir - At least five suspected Muslim militants were killed in separate encounters in Indian-administered Kashmir where people participated in protests called by separatist leaders on Friday, officials said.

The Indian army said three militants belonging to the Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami were killed in a gunbattle in the southern district of Kishtwar, some 230 kilometres east of Jammu, the state's winter capital.
