Koda surrenders, sent to 14 days judicial custody

Ranchi, May 10 : Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda surrendered in a Ranchi court Friday and was sent to 14 days' judicial custody. He was on three weeks provisional bail that ended a day before.
"I was granted provisional bail to look after my ailing mother. My mother needs my support. She is unwell and hospitalised," Koda told reporters before surrendering.
Koda has been in jail since November 2009 on several graft cases.

Ranchi, April 18 : Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda was Thursday released on a three-week provisional bail after spending about 40 months in jail for his involvement in various graft cases.
Koda was granted three weeks' provisional bail by the Supreme Court Tuesday.
After his release from the Birsa Munda central jail here, the tainted politician went straight to a hospital to meet his ailing mother.
"My mother is everything for me. I pray to god that she recovers," Koda told reporters after meeting his mother.

Ranchi, Jan 18 : Jharkhand's capital is set to host its first international cricket match when India take on England in a One-Day International (ODI) in the newly built 39,000-capacity JSCA International Stadium here Saturday.
The stadium, located in the outskirts of the city in Dhurwa, is around 10 minutes away from the Birsa Munda Airport.

"Maoists are taking advantage of the technical advancements that are coming up. So it is not really surprising. I would call them technically advanced, but I would surely call them techno savvy," said Rath.

Ranchi, Jan 4 : After Chief Minister Arjun Munda denied any agreement on rotation of power, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Friday said it will take a decision at a party meeting on whether to continue in the BJP-led Jharkhand government or pull it down.
Munda, in a written reply to JMM chief Shibu Soren, had Thursday said that when the government was formed in September 2010, there was no agreement on rotation of power after completion of 28 months, said a source in the chief minister's Office.
The government completes 28 months June 10.

victims of a bus accident, which took place near Bundu, about 50 km from
Ranchi.
Talking to reporters here, Munda said: "Many people got injured in this
incident. I have come here to see the injured and to look after their
treatment facilities. It was a front collision. It was a big incident."
"Families of deceased will get Rs. two lakh as compensation and injured will get good treatment," he added.
"I was sleeping when this incident took place. Suddenly a loud sound
took place and I saw a lot of injured decrying. I tried to save some
victims and to take out bodies of the deceased," said Ram Davey Singh, a
passenger.

Ranchi, Sep 13 : The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is tight-lipped over the fresh controversy which has arisen in the 1993 bribery case to save the government of then prime minister P. V. Narasimha Rao.
The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal ruled that the JMM MPs did not have to pay tax "on donations" received from the Congress for the 1993 confidence vote in parliament, according to the case documents made available Monday.

Dhoni shocked all his followers by tying the knot within 24 hours of his engagement to Sakshi.

Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has decided to launch a cricket academy in his home town, Ranchi.
Dhoni has approached Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) for the establishment of a cricket academy to bring up young talent and potential players from Jharkhand and Bihar.
The central coalfields congratulated Dhoni for his contribution to the state team and the Indian cricket team.
While speaking on the occasion, MSD stated that the central coalfields were making efforts to create a formula to help in promoting sports in Jharkhand.
Jharkhand cabinet expanded, nine inducted

The nine new ministers - all of cabinet rank - were sworn in by Governor K. Sankaranarayanan at the Raj Bhavan.
Of the nine, three were from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) - Hemlal Murmu, Hussain Ansari and Mathura Prasad Mahto, three from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - Baidyanath Ram, Barkuwar Gagrai and Nilkanth Singh Munda, two from All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) - Chandra Prakash Chaudhary and Umakant Razak. Sudha Chaudhary is from the Janata Dal-United (JD-U). She is the only woman in the cabinet.
Jharkhand concerned about Arcelor Mittal steel project

"We are concerned about the steel projects, including that of Arcelor Mittal. Government will find out ways to help Mittal steel to set up their plant in the state (in Khuti and Gumla districts)," Das told IANS.
"The present government is concerned about industrialisation and at the same we are also concerned about the villagers whose land would be acquired for mega projects."
Police superintendent transferred after death in custody

Ranchi, Jan 9 - A senior police officer in Jharkhand has been transferred for allegedly shielding the guilty following a death in police custody.
Palamau Superintendent of Police (SP) Jatin Narwal was transferred and made SP of Special Task Force (STF) in Ranchi Friday night, state government officials said here. He was replaced by Ramgarh SP Anup T. Matthew.
On Dec 30, police arrested Rajendra Yadav from Telari village of Palamau district. He died under mysterious circumstances the following day.

Ranchi, Jan 8 : Jailed legislator-elect Harinarayan Rai Friday took oath of office in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.
Rai, who has been booked by the Jharkhand vigilance department in a graft case for allegedly amassing wealth of Rs 1.60 crore, was brought to the state assembly from the Birsa Munda central jail here for the swearing-in ceremony.
"These are just allegations and investigation is on. I have full faith in the judiciary," Rai told reporters after taking the oath.
Jharkhand Governor for zero tolerance to corruption

Ranchi, Jan 8 : Jharkhand Governor K. Sankaranarayanan Friday said his government would adopt the policy of zero tolerance towards corruption. He also appealed to the Maoists to give up violence and join the mainstream of society.
"Corruption will not be tolerated in any way in the state. The vigilance system will further be strengthened so that it can function in a more effective way," Sankaranarayanan said in his address to the state assembly.

Ranchi, Jan 7 : With reports of Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren all set to seek a vote of confidence in the assembly on Thursday, the opposition parties in Jharkhand staged a protest accusing the government of favouring the Maoists.
Congress and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) party activists raised slogans and held posters against the state government for allegedly favouring Maoists and for the failed law and order situation in Jharkhand.

Ranchi, Jan 7 : The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Thursday boycotted the trust vote of the Shibu Soren government in Jharkhand, blaming the Congress for tacitly allowing the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) to form government with support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The boycott by the RJD, which has five legislators in Jharkhand, has given an easy sail to Shibu Soren on the trust vote.

Ranchi, Jan 7 : Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren will seek a vote of confidence in the Assembly today.
The JMM Chief heads a coalition government that includes the NDA and other small parties and claims to have the support of 46 MLAs.
Besides his 18-member JMM, the other supporting MLAs are the NDA with 20, the AJSU-5, the Jharkhand Jan-adhikar Manch-one, the Rashtriya Kalyan Paksh with one and one Independent MLA - Bidesh Singh.
The new government is the seventh in Jharkhand since its creation nine years back. (ANI)
