Now, a special ambulance for ships of the desert in Rajasthan

Jaipur, RajasthanJaipur, Oct. 13 : A voluntary organisation in Rajasthan has prepared a special ambulance to facilitate carrying camels seeking medical attention to nearby veterinary hospital.

This is perhaps for the first time that such arrangements have been done in Rajasthan help to shift the ship of the desert ‘Camel’ to hospitals when required.

The facility has been provided due to the efforts of Help In Suffering (HIS), the Jaipur-based voluntary organisation.

India temple stampede death toll rises to 224

Chamunda Devi templeNew Delhi - The death toll from a stampede of Hindu worshippers at a temple in India's north-western town of Jodhpur has risen to 224, making it one of the worst accidents of that kind in India in the recent years, officials said Thursday.

Jodhpur's top administrative official Kiran Soni Gupta said by telephone that 77 more deaths reported by relatives were confirmed by the local administration, adding to the earlier death toll of 147.

"A total of 224 died in the stampede at the Chamunda Devi temple on Tuesday," Gupta said.

RajasthanMehrangarh (Rajasthan), Oct 1 : A day after the stampede that killed at least 147 devotees, a handful of devotees came on Wednesday to offer prayers on the second day of the nine-day Navratri festival at the Chamunda Devi temple in Rajasthan.

The stampede occurred at the Chamunda Devi temple, inside a fort on top of a hill near Jodhpur.

Few devotees came to the temple to offer prayer for nine day Hindu festival of "Navratri".

The devotees who came to offer prayers said that lack of proper facilities in handling large crowds lead to the tragic incident killing many.

Indian temple stampede death toll could exceed 190

Jodhpur, RajasthanNew Delhi  - A day after a stampede at a Hindu temple, police in the north-western Indian town of Jodhpur said the death toll was likely to rise to more than 190.

"We put the death toll at 147 on Tuesday, but many victims whose bodies were taken home directly from the accident site and were not admitted to hospital were not included," Jodhpur police chief Rajeev Dasod said.

"Relatives have been reporting the deaths and we are carrying out a house-to-house survey after which we estimate the toll should be 40 to 50 higher," Dasod said, adding that the exact figure would be available later in the day.

Temple doors open after tragedy amid strong police presence

Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Vasundra RajeJodhpur, Oct 1 : One day after nearly 150 people were killed in the stampede at the Chamunda Devi temple in Jodhpur, the shrine was today opened for devotees but few people turned up.

Compared to the thousands who had gathered to offer prayers at the temple on the first day of Navaratri festival on Tuesday, their number on Wednesday morning was reduced to just a few, officials said.

"The devout are visiting the temple but it is different from what it was yesterday before the tragedy struck. It was like a fair and now is deserted," they said.
