Puri (Orissa), Jan 4 : Mahodadhi Arati was conducted at the Shankaryacharya Mutt of Gobardhan Peeth here on Sunday.
The ritual was performed under the supervision of Nischalananda Saraswati.
"We consider sea as our god. If it gets angry then it can destroy the world. That''s why we perform prayer in order to calm the sea," said Srikant Ji, A Devotee.
According to Vijayramanuj Das, Mahant the ritual is performed to destroy the evil forces.
Puri, Dec 9 : President Pratibha Patil on Wednesday visited the Puri beach to witness the sand art based on the concept of global warming.
The sand art was prepared by internationally acclaimed artist Sudarsan Pattnaik.
President Patil is on a two-day visit to the famous Jagannath temple here.
The sand sculpture is inspired by the Copenhagen Climate summit, which being held to deal with the issues about global warming and environment.
Puri, Sep 24 : World-renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has sculpted a 7-feet high sand sculpture of goddess Durga and a burning globe on the Puri beach to draw attention to global warming.
Pattnaik used 10 tonnes of sand to create the sculpture, which took him around five hours to complete.
In his creation, Pattnaik has highlighted the problem of global warming by portraying a burning globe behind the face of the goddess wearing green leaves as ornaments.

Pattnaik’s artistic tribute was created on the eighth anniversary of the attack.
Pattnaik created a seven feet high replica of the twin towers of the World Trade Centre with the flag of United States using five tonnes of sand in about seven hours.
The sculpture carried the message of ‘Power of Freedom’ and condemned terrorism.
Puri, Aug. 23 : On the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi and the 10-day festivities ahead, noted sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik has made an image at the Puri beach to evolve devotion and spread public awareness on global warming.
Patnaik has sculpted a 40 feet-long Ganesha and a tree on His palm alongside a message ''''Reduce Global Warming'''' written next to the idol.
To spread general awareness and make this sand image of Lord Ganesha, Patnaik and his team have used around 70 tonnes of sand.
Puri (Orissa), Aug 15(ANI): Keen to spread awareness about the dangers of swine flu internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a sand culture on Orissa’a Puri beach.
Patnaik has created a five foot high face of a woman wearing a masks with a ‘swine flu alert’ written on it surrounded by four pigs on each side.
About seven tonnes of sand was used to make the sculpture.

Puri, Dec. 25 : Noted sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik has sculpted Santa Claus and Jesus Christ at the Golden Beach of Puri, to spread the message of peace during Christmas festival in his inimitable way.
Sudarshan and his group of artistes worked diligently on Christmas-eve on Wednesday to create particularly the Santa Claus, which is 25 ft high. It took 600 tonnes of sand and 30 hours of work.
"This Santa Claus is made to spread the message of peace and harmony amongst the people on the occasion of Christmas," said Sudarshan Patnaik, the sand artist who was assisted by 15 of his students in this work.

Paul Allen, an Australian volunteer working in an orphanage run by France''s Mary Ellen Berger, was accused of abusing orphans aged between 13-17 years.

Puri, July 4 : At least six people were killed and 12 injured in a stampede during the annual rath yatra of Lord Jagannath here today.
"Policemen have been rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. The injured have been taken to the government hospital,'' said Director General of Police Gopal Chandra Nanda.
During the procession, the idols of Lord Jagannatha, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, the deities of the Sri Mandira, are taken out.
Thousands of devotees pull the chariots with the idols from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple. For seven days, the deities stay at the Gundicha Temple and then return.
Every year, Puri's Rath yatra is held in June-July and lasts for about ten days.
Puri (Orissa), July 3 : Noted Sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik has sculpted a statue of Lord Jagannath on the Puri beach here ahead of the chariot festival better known as Rath Yatra that starts Friday (July 4).
To carve this sand sculpture, Sudarshan has used only clean and fine-grained sand mixed with water.
Sudarhsan and his fellow student-artists have carved a fascinating statue of the chariot and an image of lord Jagannath surrounded by devotees. He also used coloured sand to make the statue attractive.
It took Sudarshan Patnaik and his tem about five hours and 10 tonnes of sand to create the sculpture.
Puri, June 23: Preparations are in full swing to put together the famous wooden chariots of Lord Jagannath in Puri for the annual festival, which is scheduled to begin next month.
Skilled craftsmen were working day and night to put together the wooden chariots.
Building these chariots is a very skilled job as these giant wooden structures resembling Biblical vehicles weigh tens of tonnes and wheels more than two meters in diameter.
The carpenters who work on making the chariots have been doing the task for generations.

Puri, May 15: Devotees in Puri were a busy lot. They bathed the idols of Puri gods with 'Chandan' (sandalwood paste) to relieve them from the scorching summer heat.
The idols were taken out of the temple in traditional gear and given bath by priests of the temple.
