Pak Taliban leader threatens to cancel sharia pact if demands are not met

Mingora, Mar. 25 : Tehreek Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM) chief Sufi Muhammad has warned the Pakistan Government that he will suspend the Swat peace deal if the government fails to meet his demands.

Addressing a press conference in Mingora, he described the newly appointed qazis as powerless.

Muhammad warned that if government fails to fulfill its promises, the TNSM would wind up its peace camp in Swat and leave the area. The government would be responsible for the ensuing law and order problems, the daily Times quoted him, as saying.

A petition filed by one Zahid Hussain Malik accuses General Musharraf of disseminating subversion of the Constitution by appointing the PCO's after dismissing superior judges including the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

"We know that some players really want to play in the IPL but I don''t think that they would be a part of it this year. They may be included in the league next year but not now. These are the harsh realities of life," The News quoted PCB's Chief Operating Officer, Saleem Altaf, as saying.

Pakistan's top judge returns to court, urges end to corruption Islamabad - Pakistan's top Supreme Court judge held court on Tuesday, more than 16 months after his dismissal by former military president Pervez Musharraf.

A crowd of jubilant lawyers dressed in black suits chanted slogans and threw rose petals as Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry arrived at the Supreme Court building with official protocol.

Chaudhry, 59, was reinstated by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on March 16 as lawyers and opposition political activists marched to the capital Islamabad for a sit-in.

New verification system causes slump in SIM sales in Pak

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) LogoLahore, Mar. 23 : The sale of SIM cards has gone down in Pakistan since the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) implemented the new verification system for new cellular connections following the recent terror attacks.

The PTA has asked all cellular service providers and their franchisees to sell SIMs (subscriber identity modules) after proper verification.

Owners of franchisees are not happy with this development.

Qadir pointed out that Shoaib recently gave a good showing in a one-day game, which he said was a good sign.
