Haqqani says US has no role in latest political solution in Pakistan

Pakistan & US FlagWashington, Mar. 17 : Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Hussain Haqqani, has outrightly rejected suggestions that the US played a role in the latest political solution in Islamabad.

Haqqani said that US as an ally might have concerns over Pakistan’s emanating internal situation, but it had no role in the internal politics of Pakistan.

He added that Pakistan’s internal politics were exclusively a matter of the people of Pakistan.

Pakistan confirms judges' reinstatement Islamabad - Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari announced the reinstatement of the country's sacked top judge and 10 others on Tuesday, a day after yielding to country-wide protests by lawyers and opposition parties amid a political standoff.

Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said in a statement that judge Iftikhar Chaudhry will assume office as chief justice of Supreme Court on March 22, following the retirement of the current top judge.

Australia says terrorism is threat to Pakistan’s existence

Sydney, Mar. 17: Australian Government has urged Pakistan’s main opposition party, the PML-N, to forget political differences and combat the “common enemy of terrorism.

“It''s quite clear that whatever political differences the political parties may have in Pakistan the common enemy is terrorism ... it is a threat to Pakistan''s very existence,” The News quoted Australia’s Foreign Minister Stephen Smith, as saying.

Smith said that Australia would do everything to root-out terrorism from Afghanistan- Pakistan border area, as a ninth Australian soldier was killed fighting insurgents in Afghanistan.

US, UK tell Pak future aid will depend on political stability

Islamabad, Mar. 17: The US and UK have clearly told the PPP-led federal government and the PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif that future military and financial aid to Pakistan will depend on political stability of the nation.

So far, the US, UK and the Pakistani military have been able to avert a political crisis.

“In the backdrop of all these concerns and fears, the US and UK have conveyed plainly to the main political players in Pakistan as well as the lawyers’ leadership their intense desire for the continuity of political process,” The Nation quoted a senior official source, as saying.

“Our cricket is going through a rough phase. But we have to fight on and one way to do that is to start winning titles like the World Twenty20 championship,” said Alam, while referring to the woes of Pakistan cricket.
