Hornbill festival draws a large number of tourists

NagalandKohima, Dec. 16 : Large number of tourists belonging to different parts of the country and abroad attended the annual Hornbill festival here.

Organised every year to promote tourism and highlight the socio-cultural panorama of the Nagas, the week-long festival had "Progress through culture" as its theme.

This festival, which brings together various Naga tribes on the occasion, is also a tribute to the hornbill, the most revered bird of the Nagas.

New Airport Chiethu all set to influence life in Nagaland

NagalandKohima, Dec. 11 : The proposed airport at Chiethu is all set to create a difference to the lives of many people in Kohima, which is today the only State capital in the country without an airport.

The proposed airport will provide fast connectivity to the people here.

As per the project report, a runway of about 2.2 kilometers in length is being proposed at a cost of about Rs. 700 crores which includes other aspects of the complete project.

Located 15 kms away from Nagaland State Secretariat, Chiethu will soon become an important link for the people of Nagaland with the upcoming airport.

Chaga Gadi festival of the Liangmei Nagas of Nagaland

Nagaland MapKohima, Nov. 20 : Celebrated to respect the womenfolk for their contribution in sustaining the family, the Chaga Gadi was held recently at The Heritage in Kohima.

It is an annual post harvest festival, which is described to be among the most awaited festivals of the Liangmei Nagas.

There are folk songs and dances as well as traditional sports such as long jump and shot put that are centre of attention during the festival. It brings an occasion of merry making, which provides every Liangmei Naga an opportunity to develop peaceful cordial relationship with their other Liangmei Nagas.

Non-Naga entrepreneurs threatened by militants in Nagaland

Kohima, NagalandKohima, Nov 4 : Entrepreneurship in Nagaland is increasingly becoming a difficult job. Militants in the state are threatening them with kidnap, ransom and even murder.

Recently, the businessmen in Nagaland’s Dimapur took out a rally against the killing of a local entrepreneur after abducting him.

Shopkeepers and the business community in the state has requested the Union Home Ministry to deploy more forces to stop the killings and for the smooth functioning of entrepreneurship in Nagaland.

Old buses being taken off road in Nagaland

Painted in blue and white colours, these mini buses have been the backbone of Nagaland Transportation service for a long time. And, the latest step has been taken for the first time to upgrade the most popular means of transportation in the state.
