Nagaland celebrates ‘Peace Day’

Three killed in Naga factional violenceKohima, Sept 26 : The urge for peace is very strong amongst the people of Nagaland, which is demonstrated in the ‘Peace Day’ celebrations, held on September 6.

In the first week of September, Nagaland celebrated the 45th anniversary of the historic peace agreement between the Central Government and the Nagas on September
6, 1964, which for the first time set the state on the path of normalcy.

Nagaland Baptist Church had played a major role in bringing the historic reconciliation.

Ao tribes celebrate Tsungremmong festival in Nagaland

Kohima, Aug. 20 : Thousands of Ao Nagas attired in their best traditional finery recently gathered at Kisama, the Naga Heritage Village, 15 kilometres from the State capital Kohima for Tsungremmong festival.

Organised for a good harvest and a better life, Tsungremmong festival belongs to Ao Nagas, the main inhabitants of Mokokchung District.

The festival is a time to celebrate and make merry for both the young and old, as various traditional dances, folk songs and games enthrall the audience. This year too, it was an occasion to celebrate with gaiety for all.

Mengujuma (Nagaland), Aug 7 : A bamboo wood artisan in Nagaland''s Mengujuma village has turned his work into pieces of art.

Mego Seyie, 30, lives in one of the most backward villages in Nagaland''s Kohima district.

Seyie, who comes from a farming background, took to this profession after completing his tenth grade.

Residents generally shy away from this craft as it is labour intensive and the profits are meager.

However, Seyie''s interest in this art made him enroll at Angami Christian Literature Society (ACLS) to learn the finer tricks of the trade. It was under the able guidance of N. Savino that Mego became a trained hand.
