Lucknow, Dec 18 - At least two people were burnt to death, while eight others received injuries when a fire broke out at a pharmaceutical factory in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said Friday.
The fire broke out Friday morning at the Meghna Factory, which was also involved in processing drugs for India's prominent drug maker Ranbaxy in the Mansoorpur industrial area of Muzaffarnagar, about 350 km from here, they added.

Lucknow, Dec 17 : Hundreds of young men aspiring to join the Border Security Force (BSF) turned violent in Uttar Pradesh when they realized that no recruitment had been planned, police said Thursday.
Nearly 200 youths were booked for indulging in vandalism and arson in Akbarpur area of Ambedkar Nagar district, some 200 km from Lucknow, police inspector S. N. Gupta told reporters.
"The students were misinformed by some Hindi newspapers that carried false reports that BSF would hold its constable recruitment drive Dec 17 in Ambedkar Nagar," Gupta said.
Lucknow, Dec 17 - Five poachers from Bihar were arrested with skins of leopards, spotted deer and other animals in Uttar Pradesh's Sonbhadra district, police said Thursday.
The five men, who are from Kaimur district in Bihar, were arrested Wednesday night from Pannuganj town, some 250 km from Lucknow.
"The five men, who are in the age group of 35-40, have confessed to have been in the illegal wildlife trade for the past five years," police Inspector Sheshdhar Pandey told reporters Thursday in Sonbhadra.
Lucknow, Dec 17 - A regional party, campaigning for a Bundelkhand state out of districts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, Thursday announced that it would start a blood signature campaign for the formation of the state.
Activists of the Bundelkhand Ekikrit Party (BEP) would start the campaign in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district Thursday, party leaders said.
"By the signature campaign, which will be officially launched Thursday, we want to draw attention of the state and the central governments towards the seriousness of the demand that has gone unnoticed during the last several years," Surendra Tiwari, general secretary of BEP, told reporters in Banda, 300 km from here.
Lucknow, Dec 16 : The Allahabad High Court Wednesday ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to take adequate measures to end the shortage of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the state capital.
The Lucknow bench of the high court also instructed the government to submit report on the matter within three weeks.
The court's directives came on a petition of the Awadh Auto Chalak Trade Union (AACTU), which alleged that the CNG shortage was adversely affecting the public transport system in Lucknow and that there was an urgent need to set up more gas stations in the state capital.
Lucknow, Dec 16 : Panic gripped a railway station in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district when four wagons of a train laden with coal caught fire, police said Wednesday.
No causality was reported in the accident that affected the busy Delhi-Howrah trunk rail route.
"It could have resulted into a major incident. However, by the timely intervention of the fire department officials it was averted," Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector A. K. Dixit told reporters in Firozabad, some 300 km from here.

Lucknow, Dec 16 - A man in western Uttar Pradesh allegedly gave away his 32-year-old wife to a fellow gambler after he lost a card game, police said Wednesday.
The incident came to light when the woman, a resident of Billauchpura village in Baghpat district, about 400 km from Lucknow, managed to escape from the house of the man to whom her husband lost the game, police added.
"The woman, who approached us Tuesday, has alleged that her husband Raheesu had used her as a stake after he lost all his money in gambling," a police official told reporters in Baghpat.
"Raheesu lost the game to one Feroz, and thus forced his wife to go along with the fellow gambler to his house."
