National Snow Rugby Championship begins in Kashmir

Gulmarg, Mar 8: India''s first National Snow Rugby Championship was kick-started in Gulmarg, Kashmir, on Saturday.

The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department and the state''s rugby association are co-hosting the event.

Teams from Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and the host state, along with the team from the armed forces are competing for top honours at the three-day event.

Jammu and Kashmir''s Tourism Director Farooq Shah said the championship would boost the state''s tourism.

Partial curfew imposed in Srinagar

The police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in the area to keep the situation under control.

According to official sources, the step has been taken as a precaution any measure.

It's a myth that Kashmir does not touch liquor. Over 10 lakh liquor bottles were consumed in the Valley in the last two years alone. This in a state that dashed liquor baron Vijay Mallya's plan to restart cultivation of hop — used in the manufacture of beer — in the state. Chief minister Omar Abdullah was categorical about not doing anything against the religious sentiments of the people.

Hurriyat leaders condemn Lahore attack on Lankan cricketers

Srinagar, Mar 4 : All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket players during the second Test match at Lahore in Pakistan.

Terming the incident as a ''heinous act of terrorism'', senior leader of Hurriyat Conference Javed Ahmed Mir said, "We are saddened at the attack on these cricket players. If the players are attacked and injured with bullets, then it''s an inhuman act and any condemnation is less."

The attack was also criticised widely by people in Kashmir, who demanded that the perpetrators of the attack should be punished.

Centre should consider safe passage for foreign ultras: Omar AbdullahJammu, Mar 3 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said the Central Government should consider giving a safe passage for foreign ultras, so that they can return to their country of origin.

“The Centre must provide a safe passage for foreign ultras, so that they can stop their work and come back to the mainstream. Most of them belong to other countries and they have to go back,” Omar said.
