Greece condemns air violations by Turkey

Greece condemns air violations by TurkeyAthens  - Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyianni on MOnday condemned air violations by Turkey and said relations between the two traditional foes had stagnated last year.

"The attempts to improve our relations with Ankara stagnated in 2008 and we will strive to improve this in the new year," Bakoyianni said following a meeting with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis.

Athens claims that Turkish fighter jets have repeatedly been violating Greece's air space in recent weeks.

Riot police clash with protesters in Athens

GreeceAthens- Hundreds of demonstrators clashed Friday with police in front of the Greek parliament in central Athens, with protesters hurling firebombs and riot police retaliating with teargas.

The clashes came as 5,000 students marched in further anti- government protests in Athens and thousands more across Greece to protest government education reforms and well as Israeli attacks in Gaza.

Rallies by students and teachers also took place in the western port city of Patras and the northern port city of Thessaloniki.

Athens - Unknown attackers fired multiple shots at a police watch post in Athens early Monday morning, leaving one police officer wounded with life threatening injuries, local radio reported.

Protest against Greek police action held in German city Hamburg  - Some 800 people in the north German port city of Hamburg demonstrated Saturday in support of students in Greece involved in recent clashes with police.

Hamburg police broke up the protest after bottles and fireworks were thrown at officers as the demonstrators attempted to march from the University of Hamburg to the city's main railway station.

Afterwards, some of the protesters gathered outside the Greek consulate-general for an evening vigil. Police, backed by water cannons, were out in force near the building.

Further violence in Athens as demonstrators attack French institute

Greece FlagAthens - Athens braced Friday for another protest demonstration as violence continued with a molotov cocktail attack against a French language institute.

Eyewitnesses reported how some 20 masked protesters hurled molotov cocktails at the institute in central Athens and then escaped down a narrow street.

There were no injuries and damage to the building was slight. The language institute was already closed for Christmas holidays.

The incident continued nearly two weeks of severe unrest which was triggered by the shooting death of a 15-year-old youth by police on December 6.
