The All India Ulema Association called upon the Congress party to nominate atleast 12 per cent candidates from the Muslim community in the upcoming general elections.

Brahmos to be inducted into IAF by 2012

BrahMosCoimbatore, Mar 23 : A. Sivathanu Pillai, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Brahmos Aerospace, has said that the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos will be inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF) by 2012.

Pillai was interacting with media at a function here on Sunday as he spoke at length about the programme for integration of the Brahmos missile on an airborne platform.

They formed a human chain and marched through the streets of the city on Saturday voicing their protest against genocide by Sri Lankan authorities.

Tamil activists take to the streets over Lankan conflict

Coimbatore, Feb 11 : Thousands of Tamil activists, belonging to various political parties, marched here on Tuesday to demand the Central Government''s intervention in stopping the war in Sri Lanka.

Activists of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the Congress and other organizations participated in the march shouting slogans against the Sri Lankan Government for what they termed was a genocide.

"Our main wish is that the war in Sri Lanka stops and Tamil people are rehabilitated. This is in contrast to some party''s giving support to LTTE, which is not our intention. We are only interested in protecting the innocent people of Sri Lank, the Tamilian population there," said R. Prabu, a Congress MP.

Sri Lankan Tamil refugees stage hunger strike in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu MapCoimbatore, Feb. 2 : Hundreds of Sri Lankan Tamils, who have taken refuge in India, went on a hunger strike on Monday here, demanding an intervention from the Central Government on the issue of the military offensive being carried out on the hideouts of the rebels in Sri Lanka.

The agitating people also threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike if the Government does not respond to their demands.
