2 Naxalites killed in ChhattisgarhTwo Naxalites were killed in a gun battle with the police near a village in Bijapur area of Chhattisgarh on Friday.

The exchange of fire took place when the extremists were trying to attack a police camp near Pamalvaia village in Bijapur area, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) A N Upadhya said.

A rifle and explosives were recovered from the site, he said.

The Naxalites attacked the Chhattisgarh Armed Police Force (CAF) camp, following which the police returned fire, killing two of them, Upadhya said.

68% polling in Chhattisgarh re-poll

Nearly 68 percent voters exercised their franchise in the eight polling booths across the four assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh that went for re-polling on Wednesday.

Out of those four Keshkal and Antagarh constituencies are naxal infested.

Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Arvind Dixit said that the polling was peaceful and the average polling about 68 percent.

Around 79 percent polling was registered in two booths under Kunkuri constituency, 77 percent at one booth under Dondilohara constituency, 70 percent at the two booths under Antagarh constituency and an average 48 percent in three booths under Keshkal constituency, Dixit said.

ChattisgarhNew Delhi - At least five policemen were on Tuesday killed in a landmine blast triggered by suspected Maoist rebels in India's central state of Chhattisgarh, a news report said.

The explosion that took place in the southern Bastar district of the state blew up a bridge killing five policemen and injuring two other security personnel, the PTI news agency reported quoting senior police official AN Upadhya.

The rebels carried out the blast when the policemen were returning after their election duty at polling booths in the region.

Chhattisgarh is one of the six Indian states holding elections.

Landmine blast kills five in Chattisgarh

ChattisgarhRaipur, Nov. 25 : At least five policemen of the District Force (DF) have been reportedly killed in a landmine blast triggered by naxalites in Bastar district of Chattisgarh today.

Inspector General of Police (Bastar), A N Upadhaya said that the naxals blew up a bridge killing five policemen on the spot and injuring at least two DF personnel near the Mardapal and Kondagaon areas of the district.

The force was returning after election duty from Narayanpur assembly constituency, where re - polling was held on Monday.

They halted in Mardapal last night after the polls and were returning to Kondagaon, Upadhaya added.

The districts are Sarguja, Jashpur, Korba, Raipur and Rajnandgaon.

Some of these booths had recorded more polling than the number of listed voters, while balloting could not take place at the others due to different reasons, officials in the State Election Office said.
