Kabul, Jan 22 : Afghanistan has assured India of improving levels of cooperation in areas of security and economic related activities.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is on a two-day visit of Afghanistan met his Afghanistan counterpart Rangin Dadfar Spanta here on Wednesday and discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues.

Speaking to reporters, Spanta said Afghanistan would increase levels of information exchange and cooperation with India.

Kabul - British Defence Minister John Hutton visited his country's troops in southern Afghanistan, while a top US general met with President Hamid Karzai in Kabul, officials said Wednesday.

The visit by top US and British officials comes amid the Afghan government's constant demands to have more control over NATO troops stationed in the war-wracked country.

Kabul - A suicide bomber attacked an Afghan army vehicle in a relatively peaceful western province on Wednesday, killing two army soldiers and wounding three others, defence ministry said.

The bomber, who also died in the attack, targeted the military vehicle in Mir Daoud area of Herat city, the capital for the province of the same name on Wednesday morning, the defence ministry said in a statement.

Islamabad, Jan 21: The United States has negotiated new supply lines for allied troops in Afghanistan through Central Asia after the Pakistan Taliban attacked and torched supplies passing through the Khyber Pass.

US CENTCOM chief General David Petraeus said: "Pakistan is the sole route through which NATO and American supplies pass at present. This has caused resentment in sections of Pakistani society and supply trucks passing through the northwest have been attacked and raided on several occasions."

Islamabad - At least 30 people were killed Tuesday in militant violence in Pakistan's restive tribal region bordering Afghanistan as the country's military asked external powers to stop demanding that it to do more against Islamic militancy.

Pakistani military jet aircraft attacked militant positions in Kandharo village of Mohmand tribal region before ground troops moved in to clear the area.
