Kabul, Jan. 22 : Addressing a joint press conference with his Afghan counterpart Rangeen Dadfar Spanta, the visiting Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee here, replying to question on Kashmir on Thursday said that the international community should not link the November 2008 terror attacks on Mumbai to Kashmir.

Apparently referring to the recent statement made by the British Foreign Secretary David Miliband on Kashmir suggesting terror attacks in south Asia would stop with the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, Mukherjee said: "These attacks (on Mumbai) are not related to Jammu and Kashmir and are a part of global terrorism."

Washington, Jan. 22 : Non-military aid to Pakistan will increase only if it holds itself accountable for security in the border region with Afghanistan, says a new White House foreign policy agenda issued on Wednesday.

Afghanistan and Pakistan top this agenda, followed by nuclear weapons, Iran, energy security, Israel, bipartisanship and openness, in that order.

"Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden will refocus American resources on the greatest threat to our security - the resurgence of Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan,'' the statement said.

Helmand (Afghanistan), Jan. 22 : Having handed over the 215-km-long Zaranj-Delaram Highway to Afghanistan, visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee used his two-day visit to this landlocked war and militant ravaged country to reiterate on Thursday the United States key role in tackling terror in South Asia.

Talking to ANI here, he said that relations between India and the United States "has reached new heights in the last couple of years and it should be maintained at that level."

Delaram (South Afghanistan), Jan. 22 : India on Thursday handed over the strategically located Zaranj-Delaram Highway to Afghanistan.

The 215-km-long highway was handed over to the Afghan authorities by visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee in the presence of Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Foreign Minister Rangeen Dadfar Spanta.

"Completion of the road reflects the determination of both India and Afghanistan that nothing can prevent or hinder collaboration between the two countries," Mukherjee said at a function to mark the handover.

Islamabad  - NATO's secretary general was holding talks Thursday in Islamabad on Pakistan's increased cooperation in the fight against Islamic militancy and the security of a key supply route for Western forces in Afghanistan, a Foreign Affairs Ministry official said.

Jaap de Hoop Scheffer was expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and army chief Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

Kabul  - The US-led international coalition forces killed six suspected militants and detained another in an operation that targeted a network of roadside bomb makers and foreign fighters in southern Afghanistan, the military said Thursday.

The militants were killed in Day Chopan district of southern Zabul province on Wednesday after they opened fire on forces approaching their hideout, the US military said in a statement.
