Mumbai , Jan 22 : Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sureesh Mehta, believes the Mumbai attacks could not have been carried out without indirect support from "professional organisations" in Pakistan.

"Of course, there is indirect support..... some professional organisations could be involved," said Admiral Mehta in Mumbai on Thursday after commissioning the Navy's first helicopter base, INS Shikra.

"How do you learn to be doing what you are doing? How do you get the infrastructure you need for this kind of thing?" the Navy chief asked.

Mehta said that even if the terrorists who participated in the attacks were non-state actors, as claimed by Pakistan, they were still irresponsible.

Admiral Mehta informed that the forces are always on alert and ready to face any cross border infiltration. He also said previously laid ships are still on duty on India's western seaboard, but there was no additional deployment of Navy personnel.

Several organisational issues have already been discussed to improve coordination between the security agencies of the country with the objective of safeguarding the nation from future terror activities, he said. (ANI)
