New Delhi, Dec. 4: The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N. Gopalaswamy alongwith two election commissioners Dr. S.Y. Qureshi and Navin Chawla will review the final poll preparations in Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat.
During their visit, the team will meet representatives of the political parties, central observers, district collectors and senior police officers of the two regions. The Commission will also conduct a meeting at Rajkot and Surat.
This is the first ever visit of the full Election Commission to Saurashtra region.
New Delhi, Dec 3: The two-day politburo meeting of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) will begin here today where several issues, including those related to Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen, violence-hit Nandigram and the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal, are likely to be discussed.
The issues related to Nasreen pertain to her return to Kolkata and her writings.
The situation in Nandigram after the deployment of the central paramilitary forces is also on the agenda.
The party’s top-brass is likely to come out with a statement on the party’s stand on these issues.
