Washington, Dec 12: The January 8 elections in Pakistan won’t be credible without the Constitution being reinstated, politicians being free to campaign, the media free to report, and all activists are freed from detention, according to a Heritage Foundation expert.
Lisa Curtis, who will be a member of the International Republican Institute election monitoring team to Pakistan, was quoted by the Daily Times as saying that mainstream political parties of Pakistan must demonstrate strength so that “the vast majority of Pakistanis do not support the extremist Islamic agenda. ”
Shimla, Dec 12: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami along with the other two Election Commissioners will arrive here today to review poll preparedness for the second phase of Assembly elections, scheduled to be held on December 19.
During two-day visit, Gopalaswamy, Naveen Chawla and S Y Qureshi will hold discussions with the State Election Commission, observers, Director General of Police, District Magistrates and political parties.
The Commission will also hold a review meeting with the observers and other State officials.
