Perseid meteor shower puts up great show during Peak Times
Perseid meteor shower is said to be one of the best cosmic light shows of the year. And, without a doubt it is not letting down its watchers all over the world and filled them with joy, as the meteor shower took place in the dark night sky.
The Perseid meteor shower is an annual activity that takes places when pieces of Comet Swift-Tuttle hit earth's atmosphere and they burn up in the air. The comet Swift-Turtle orbits the sun every 133 years. Experts said pieces of ice and other materials turn into fireballs as they hit earth and burn up, putting up a magnificent show.
This year's meteor shower started on July 17 and will continue through August 24. NASA stated that August 12 and 13 were the peak times of this meteor shower. During the peak times, up to 100 meteors lit up the night sky.
Those who saw on the both dates have said the meteor show was one of the best ever they have seen. Photographer Chris Bakley has taken pictures of the meteor shower from Cape May, New Jersey and said it was the best meteor shower in years.
Photographer Ruslan Merzlyakov, who was viewing the phenomenon from Denmark, termed the event to be 'blood fantastic'. "This was the best night in my whole astrophotography experience. The Danish night sky was absolutely clear during the special sky event! Lots of Perseids and Northern Lights exploded in the sky right over my hometown", affirmed Merzlyakov.
